Solar

“Keep your face always toward the sun—and shadows will fall behind you.” – Walt Whitman

Summer is a season of action, energy, growth, and light. In our Solar-themed flow, we were working with the inspiring qualities of the sun – its power, consistency, and ability to energise life.

The sun connects us to our own inner radiance, that unique light each of us carries.  When we move, breathe, and live from this centre, we can become more confident, open, and vibrant.

This practice focused on building internal fire (Agni) and Tapas, meaning to burn or create heat. To cultivate inner fire, drive, willpower, passion, discipline, overcome obstacles while staying present and balanced. We used the breath to tap into our own power – our inner source of strength, joy, and vitality. We connected physically, emotionally and energetically in realisation that we don’t have to strive to be more or do more. It was about recognising that our light is already within us, waiting to shine.

Solar - Kindred Spirits

This is what we covered in class over the last 6 weeks.

Your Inner Light – The sun is a symbol of light, warmth, and life. In Yoga, this is connected to Manipura Chakra – our personal power centre at the core of our being. When we ignite this inner fire, we cultivate confidence, direction, and the energy to show up fully.
We focused on

  • Moving with intention
  • Letting every breath stoke our fire
  • Stepping into our power with presence and purpose

Balancing Heat with Stillness – We looked at how to manage our own energy.  The sun teaches us about cycles – rising, peaking, and setting. In summer, we often push ourselves, driven by light and activity. But true solar strength includes knowing when to slow down.

We explored the balance between effort and ease and asked the question –

“Can I honour my energy without burning out?”

The Courage to Shine and be Yourself – Sometimes we dull down our own light in fear of perhaps,

  • Being judged by others
  • Standing out
  • Of failing

But the sun never hides. It rises again and again, regardless of yesterday. With that in mind we practiced stepping to the top of our mat like the sun rising—boldly, consistently, and with love.

Clarity & Illumination – Sunlight illuminates. It reveals what is hidden and brings clarity. In Yoga, this is mirrored in presence – the practice of paying attention.

We asked ourselves to –

  • Notice our thoughts
  • Notice our breath
  • Notice our reactions

Not just on our mats but outside in daily life. We asked the question –

“What is the light of awareness showing me today?”

Radiance from Within – The sun radiates outward without apology. We reflected on what would it feel like to live from our centre and radiate our truth and to move with courage?

As we bring this practice to a close, I hope the qualities and aspects of the Sun, and the summer season reminds you of your own power, purpose and brilliance.

Shine your light.

And as always, thank you for coming to class.
